PRIVACY & STORAGE · DEVELOPMENT PREVIEW

Your audio.
Your choice.

SafeSteno is an offline-first audio recorder for iPhone and Apple Watch. It is currently in development. This page explains the current design and its practical limits.

Recordings stay under your control.

The app records and stores audio on your devices. It does not require a SafeSteno account and does not include third-party analytics or a cloud transcription service. Transcription is currently paused; the active app focuses on recording, playback and delivery to storage you configure.

You choose storage targets.

Nothing is sent automatically until you configure a ready target. All saved audio, including earlier recordings, is then delivered to each ready target. Remote options include S3-compatible storage, HTTPS WebDAV and the Dropbox integration. Dropbox account connections require SafeSteno’s registered app key. A Files-folder target writes through the folder provider you select.

Remote uploads contain readable original M4A audio and use HTTPS. There is no additional client-side payload encryption. Your server or storage provider, and anyone with access to the destination, can read those files. Destination credentials, Dropbox refresh credentials and Files-folder bookmarks are stored in iPhone Keychain.

Optional location and device details remain associated with the local recording. The audio-only target delivery does not add a separate metadata or transcript manifest. Manually sharing an audio file uses the iOS share sheet and the service you choose.

Watch transfer and local protection.

Recordings use system file protection. Saved Watch recordings remain encrypted on Watch until iPhone confirms a durable import. A successful transfer alone does not delete the Watch copy. iPhone keeps its local audio after target delivery.

Recording and playback can continue while locked using appropriate system file protection. Playback prepares a temporary, protected copy that is removed when stopped or cleaned on a later app launch. The recording index is available to the app after the first unlock. These protections do not make files inaccessible to the operating system or someone with authorized device access.

Delivery and deletion.

Delivery runs while SafeSteno is open and iPhone is unlocked. Failed or unavailable targets stay queued for retry. Files-provider receipts confirm that the selected folder accepted the file, not that its provider has finished uploading to a remote service.

Deleting a recording removes its local app copy and queued deliveries. Already uploaded files, shared files and other recipient copies remain where they were sent. Removing a target does not delete its destination files. Physical erasure of flash storage cannot be guaranteed.

This website.

This landing page contains no analytics SDK, tracking cookies, advertising pixels, sign-up form or audio uploader. Fonts, styles, scripts and images are served with the page. The app image contains sample recordings. The interactive storage selector runs in your browser and does not connect to those storage services.

The hosting infrastructure receives the technical requests needed to serve the website. External links, including any storage provider’s sign-in or account pages, are governed by that provider’s own practices.

Current availability.

SafeSteno is not yet publicly available through the App Store or TestFlight. Storage integrations, lock-screen playback and paired-device workflows still need real-device acceptance testing with the intended setup.
